There are a large number of family history groups, local history societies and museums in the region with a wealth of information for researchers.
These societies are run by dedicated volunteers who can help with your research in specific areas. Without these groups we would not have the wealth of information we have today and they deserve your support.
Don’t be a grump if there is a small entrance fee or if they ask for a fee for a Research Request if you aren’t able to visit. They are not a huge conglomerate like Ancestry or FindMyPast – they are locals who are passionate about their local history and may just have that extra bit of information that you won’t find anywhere else!
